Does the EVGA 650w GQ have surge protection? Not sure my power strip has one but I thought I read that a PSU like that will. Thanks!

Those are all output protections.

It may have something but it won't have much. It's better just to get a surge protector for your entire setup.

The protection circuits are not replacement for a surge protector. What a surge protector does, is provide an easy path for a big amount of current to pass through to ground, instead of passing through your electronics and killing them. The OPP and OCP circuits are a good layer of defense, but they're not enough to protect your system from a lightning strike.

So you should still get a SP if you're in a place with a lot of storms :)

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

The PSU will prevent your components from being damaged with it's internal fuse, but chances are that it will die in the process and need to be replaced.

You should have a surge protector or UPS before your PSU if you want the PSU to be safe from damage as well.

You're probably fine without one. It never hurts to have one though, I've had mine since 2004 and it hasn't blown, but it's there for that one time.
