First Build. Overkill?

Hey, I made an earlier post about this build but this is a more refined list with a few updated parts compared to my last list. I would like to get some feedback about the build and if it would be worth the money.

My main uses for this device will be...

• Adobe Photoshop (working with quad HD possibly 4k Photography)
• Artrage
• Beamng.drive (Highest settings at 60fps)
• Subnautica (Highest settings at 60fps)
• Mafia 3 (Highest Settings)
• Gears Of War 4 (Highest Settings)
• Grand Theft Auto 5 (highest settings at 60fps)
• No Man's Sky (highest settings at 60fps)
• VR (Oculus rift/HTC vive in the future)

 

 

Obviously I won't be using it for much. My biggest concern as far as CPU and GPU is for Beamng.drive, No Man's Sky, and Photoshop. I'm just trying to get the best performance without spending hellish amounts. Let me know what you think. Is this overkill or am I hitting all the right points. I am totally open to suggestions. Thanks.

I find it hard to justify spending $250 for a Z170 motherboard... any particular reason for the Deluxe? The ASUS Z170-A is $100 less and functions virtually the same.

 

The power supply is overkill if you're not planning to SLI. The EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2 should serve you well and I'd argue it's a better quality power supply for less money.

You only need a 600w psu unless you plan on adding a second 1070

750W is overkill for a single 1070, 500W is enough. Do you really need AIO? High end air performs very well for much less.

Less cooling capacity and much fewer power phases. look at something like an Asus Maximus VIII Hero. $200 board and has a damn good feature list

Hey Ozaiak, looks well thought through and the CPU and GPU will be fine for your uses, although I would personally change the PSU to a Corsair RM750w, it's near silent and would be more reliable.

 

Also, what monitor will you be using with this?

Get a cheaper MOBO, they are all pretty much the same. Just find one with good reviews and you'll be all set. Mine was $120 and I've had no issues with it. Maybe use the money you save on the MOBO for a 1080? Also are you planning to over clock? I'd assume so since you have a "K" sku processor. If you don't want to OC I'd say scrap the liquid cooling and save some money there too. I edit videos and all that jazz and under load my temps on my 212 EVO don't go beyond 65

I would think a 8+2 phase VRM implementation is good enough. The law of diminishing returns applies here and frankly, I find the $100 hard to justify.

 

If you want a proper, hardcore overclocking motherboard... take a look at the ASRock Z170 OC Formula mATX.

That's not the best motherboard for as high end a build as this.

If you're set on 4k, you'll definitely want to head down the road of purchasing a 1080 instead. The build prometheus posted would probably suit your needs better, as long as it matches with the aesthetics you want, but a different PSU and mobo as Cereal said.

The motherboard gets the job done, from the review i've seen the overclock is good enough. You don't need a 200-300 buck motherboard to overclock a damn cpu.

 

And yeah my bad, didn't look at that supernova lol, it have some bad review, i already change it though

This may sound stupid but I don't mind spending a little more on this motherboard because it has RGB Lighting. Plus, I trust Asus brand motherboards.

Why should you put a 200-300$ mobo in this build? The price don't justify the performance bump at all! Are you hoping to get 0.1ghz more? really for like 100 bucks?
