If it's too little the PC will not work.

If it's too much the PC will only use what it needs.

So no, there is no issue.

you do not need a 600w psu for your build. because you are not OCing the cpu for starters and intel and nvidia cpu/cards, are more power efficient. the only reason, still not really, if you have a massive raid going on and some other crazy stuff going on that draws more power than needed from 450w.

A power supply only outputs as much power as the components require. Ex: If you put a 1000 watt power supply in that system it's not going to shove 1000 watts into the system. A 600 watt was probably a good choice on his part to give him upgrade headroom in the future.

Should be fine. An extra 200 or so watts won't do any harm.

I think you missed the point that his friend already has the 600W power supply.

Except that's not what he's asking...?

He wants to know if the 600W PSU his friend already has will damage the PC...

you are thinking too hard about this... I was addressing that he does not need it and already his question was addressed that a 600w wont kill his pc... so there is really no need to be lost in translation here.

You could power it with a 2000W server PSU and be fine. The only issue might be the 600W being low-quality. What PSU is it?

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

What EVGA? EVGA sells several PSUs of varying quality and performance.

If it's the 600B you're fine. If it's the 80 PLUS rated version I'd return it and upgrade.

It's a pretty poor quality PSU. If you could return it and buy a 450/500/600B then it would soothe my senses :P
