Good cards for 1440p?

I've been going back and forth this past year on whether or not to make the jump from 1080 to 1440p and I think now seems like a good time. This does go beyond just a GPU but I thought this would be a good place to post as my GPU is the harder choice.

My current GPU is quite out dated now; a GTX 660ti and my CPU is also pretty old (Intel i5 3570K at stock speed) so I'm wondering if that would need updating as well or would a more powerful graphics card with a CPU overclock be enough?

Budget wise I'm looking at somewhere between £250-300. If anyone could recommend a good monitor that would be great too.

You are not going to be able to jump to 1440p for 300 especially if you need a monitor as well its just not gonna happen.

For only 300 your gonna have to play at medium settings at 1440p but that should give you 60+ fps on most games and the best card sup 300 is a 1060 6G. Here's the model I would go for right now would be this gigabyte card https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/7RKhP6/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1060-6gb-windforce-oc-6g-video-card-gv-n1060wf2oc-6gd and as for the monitor I would suggest this https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/KBbkcf/asus-monitor-pb258q but if you need fast response time I would suggest https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/6RJkcf/aoc-monitor-q2778vqe

I tho a 1440p screen is 300+ $$ yet alone ???

then u need a 400$ gpu ? ( gtx 1070 )

And still your cpu will be bottlenecking a bit.. ( not much , still viable )

I think you are dreaming for 300$.... like we all do ;)

That actually seems quite reasonable to me. Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity what card would be need for high settings at 60FPS? Would the price jump be much higher?

Yeah I am a bit but the budget may go up, I'm just trying to get an idea at this point.

If you're upgrading your monitor alongside your gpu. You might consider a RX480 with a Freesync 1440p monitor. It can do medium/high at 1440P 60 fps no problem in most AAA titles.

As for 1440p Dell P2416D is awesome IPS high quality display for very good value and can be oced to 75 fps.

I have it I love it and I would not change it for anything lower. Colors and resolution is best you dont need some stupid 120 fps.

As for gpu I rock gtx 960 4gb. So you will have no issue with gtx 1060 6gb or amd 480. Note Amd 480 will be better preformer but will run smoking hot compared to 1060. So if you arr not in to heat go nvidia.

Total cost would be like 540-580 euros in Europe I think no idea about your local prices.

R9 Fury is the lowest I would get if you want to game at 1440p. Depending on what you play, I would also consider going 2560 x 1080 (21:9).

CPU i7 6700 Cooling Cryorig H7 Motherboard MSI H110i Pro AC RAM Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB DDR4 2133 GPU Pulse RX 5700 XT Case Fractal Design Define Mini C Storage Trascend SSD370S 256GB + WD Black 320GB + Sandisk Ultra II 480GB + WD Blue 1TB PSU EVGA GS 550 Display Nixeus Vue24B FreeSync 144 Hz Monitor (VESA mounted) Keyboard Aorus K3 Mechanical Keyboard Mouse Logitech G402 OS Windows 10 Home 64 bit
