I was thinking about installing the latest Linux OS onto my secondary hardrive that currently has windows 7 on it.  I was wondering if I do this, if it will wipe everything else I have on there.

Edit: Also what kind of linux Os would you suggest like Unbuntu or Fedora and etc.

I recommend Mint because it's less resource hungry than Ubuntu but has all the compatibility (namely Steam). Also I really like the Mate and Cinnamon UIs.

Also Elementary OS is worth looking into. I haven't tried it myself so I can't recommend it but do look into it.

Elementary OS is nice. It's a prettier version of Ubuntu with a little longer reach of support for hardware ie. Ubuntu 12 didn't support my Webcam, eOS does which I was rather surprised at. I gave playing Prison Architect on it a go, it didn't play incredibly well - tearing, crackly noise - but it's in Alpha so I can't really judge it. I'll give playing something more refined, like Portal 2 or something, a go later.

Go for the gold... ubuntu desktop...  and if you feel it's too bloated.. you can adjust it (try different desktops or other lighter installs).

I use lubuntu.   Minimal and lite, but not bare.  I also run it as virtual machine.
