So a modem can't decide the Internet right? Also even if you connect a device through wire that won't work right? Ok so let's say that you have a router and modem in your bag? Will you have internet if you use sattalite Internet?

If you had satallite internet then it would work, but satallites aren't lightweight so it would be pretty impractical, but could work.

Hi all,

So let's say that you don't have enough money for the expensive data and you bring your router, plug it in a power brick and carry it with you. Will you be able to use it while your walking and having good enough signal from your provider? If no, is there like a special router that does that because I've seen that small router that acts like a VPN too. Thanks in advanced!

What you need is a range extender or a repeater that repeats or extends the signal from your ISP's router. This won't work for long distances, but extending a couple of meters should be pretty okay without dropping too much speed. We're talking like 10-20m max.

Are you going to have a cord to go to the modem? Routers need something to give them data, you can't just get a router and boom free internet access.

Probably going to get one one those routers that have a modem I'm it. Also can't you just have a router? What does a modem do then? It gives the data from the ISP to it?

Modem takes the digital signal from the computer and turns it into an analog signal to be transmitted to the ISP. If you just have a router you can still connect to other devices on the router, and have a connection to other decices connected to it, but you will need some sort of external connection to connect to the internet.

Modem talks to the ISP (modulate - demodulate; it is what does the encoding/decoding over the cable/fiber to the ISP) and a router just routes the data around.  Be it to the wireless, the Ethernet, etc.
