Doom?

Ummmmmmm you do know this is a game about murdering demons from hell right?!?!

You'd have to mod it to get rid of anything satanic but what is the issue as you are killing the satanic things

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/ Tier Breakdown (My understanding)--1 Godly, 2 Great, 3 Good, 4 Average, 5 Meh, 6 Bad, 7 Awful

I know I mean the symbols and everything and I meant like a mod or something.

How far along are you in the game? I'm on level 4 or 5 and I haven't found the game to be overly unsettling. The gore and violence is very tastefully executed, if such a description can be made about a game called Doom.

I was going to suggest trying to find a copy localized for Germany. Germany has been known (or notorious) for having very restrictive policies on stuff like that. But in this case, Doom 2016 apparently launched uncut in Germany (a first for the series), so that's out.

http://www.nexusmods.com/doom/?

You can check the Doom site on NexusMods, but as far as I can tell there are only 7 mods posted on it and half of them seem to be for the beta build of the game, suggesting to me that the game has very poor support for real mods. It's also kind of a niche concern for someone who wants to play Doom to have, so it might still be tricky to find such a mod even if Doom had a thriving mod community.

Well I got it free with a GPU I bought but I don't know if I should sell it or not which I will most likely sell it if I can't get rid of the symbols/imagery.

I would try to sell it than change a game to this extent. There isn't really much of a story. It's a game based on graphics/sound and perpetual killing. The game rewards you for endless, fast paced violence. But somehow they managed to make it inviting instead of scary (except for the opening scene). The level design is incredible.

I'm also a little confused what you mean by "symbols/imagery"? Other than the demons you are killing, a game like Tomb Raider has more blatant symbolism.

Are you worried your parents are not going to let you play it or is this a spiritual issue you're facing or something?

Why do you want to get rid of them?

How is the rest of the game after the initial scene "inviting"? lol

It's nonstop creepy.  Especially the hell levels.  Those were somewhat unnerving for me.  But a slightly scary shooter is what I wanted so I'm happy with it.  I like it when a game can scare me.  Resident Evil 4 and Alien Isolation have the same effect but a lot stronger.  Though with Resident Evil 4 it's modtly those creepy cultist guys in the Castle... lol

Maybe it's because I grew up playing the original DOOM & DOOM II on MS-DOS before playing stuff like Diablo on Win 95/98, but I personally find the level designs in Doom 4 about right for the fact you're fighting through Hell itself to take it down and stop it from further corrupting the realm of Humans (such as the Mars base).

I'm not a fan of "Horror" games (RE, Alien, FNAF's jumpscare bullshit), but with Doom (at least the first, second and fourth main games) you're not constantly on the edge of your seat wondering where the next scare is going to come from as the level and sound design give you good hints as to what monsters are going to be where and how you can deal with them (even if they teleport in bigger buggers after you clear out the imps and such the further you go through).

Well... have you ever played Doom 3? That game made me want to quit gaming. It was practically pitch black dark. Demanding to run (even though it was pretty dark). And you had one of two options: your gun OR your flashlight. Let me emphasize, the game was not easy to see in. The guns were weak. The flashlight was pretty weak too. The atmosphere and game play were very much focused on slow progression through eerie stages.

By contrast, the latest Doom is not dark. It's very well lit no matter which level you're playing. The level design is impressive and fun to proceed through. It encourages and rewards exploration. I find myself wanting to keep playing it. While I haven't gotten to the "hell" levels, I did skip through a let's play on YouTube and the atmosphere looked pretty similar to the stages I've played so far.

Let me give you an example of a game that is not very inviting to play: Thief.

I completely agree with you. Doom 3 diverged from the formula a bit.

Yes I have played 3 and while yes it was unsettling so was Doom 4/new Doom.  This new Doom does have have a different feel to it but being somewhat better lit doesn't ruin the atmosphere of the game.

If you're saying you haven't played through all of the new Doom I suggest you finish a play through before judging it too harshly.  While there are differences both games are good in their own right.

I do think I prefer Doom 3 partly because it had more of a story for one thing but the new Doom is good too.

My bad if I made it sound harsh. I'm in love with Doom 4. I fully plan to complete it... just kinda tough because I am wholeheartedly making an attempt to 100%. I only get to play 1 level or so a week because of work.

To me, the lighting and sound make a huge difference in regards to the atmosphere. Kind of like the doorways and paths leading up to Elizabeth's tower in Bioshock Infinite. It was by far the slowest part of the game for me because it was making me very tense. I could tell they were building up something, but had no clue what to expect. The dark scares me, bro! :)

It's cool no worries.  Sorry.  I sort of got the incorrect impression that you weren't planning to finish it.  ?

I don't have the patience to 100% most games.  Sometimes I'll do that or come decently close but I pretty much never do every little random thing.

I don't remember what that part of Infinite was like but I've got the remastered collection so I'm sure that'll give me an excuse to replay it before long.
