Who has done it? I've never painted a case before and am considering doing it for my R4. I've bagged on this case before, but mainly for the poor painting job Fractal has done for the white one..the body has a yellow tint vs the front which makes it look ugly to me. I also have a small chip on the front door that hurts my OCD.

I've considered using a carbon fibre wrap for the front plastic bezel and a nice red paint for the body. If the price is right, I may consider this vs buying a new case. Anyone have any tips on what I'd need/ the type of paint to use that looks nice? Automotive grade paint is nice, but the price..may as well get another case for that.

Personally i wouldn't paint an R4, i think they look perfect, but the carbon fiber wrap sounds nice.

Throw the spray paint canister at it, or blow the cannister up inside the case, put a firework or grenade(maybe hydrogen bomb). It works, trust me im an engineer(when i play tf2).

Never painted my case before.....I don't even have a case at all

But before you start getting into the grim and grimmy stuff analyse your case drawing out which panels and piece are metal, and plastics. Get the essential things like green painter tape/rulers even a fine permanent marker and pencil to maybe even do custom designs

Please become a member of the Linus Tech Tips forum, keep writing smug remarks & let us love you. Peace out.

I don't recommend modifying the front brushed aluminium, it will probably look best that way. Maybe wrap the rest of the exterior with carbon fiber.

I have a Lian Li cube in the closet, that is brushed aluminium. The R4 uses the brushed look on plastic for the black version. There is zero aluminum on the case.

What's up with yours? The paint and finish on mine looks perfect.

you could try and plastidip it.

No idea, the white on the plastic and metal aren't matched. Somehow the shade of white on the plastic is lighter.

That's only for the black one, the white version doesn't have that look. :)

Also @helping , I was looking at a Monster Mawd  video with them using plastidip and that looks mad..I might do that with my R4.

Thought the OP meant that they returned the white case and got (presumably) a black one. If you want to use the carbon fiber, painting it before applying it (if it's black on white) is probably wise.

Ah, I see. Nah, I have it in white and not too keen on the finish between metal and plastic. Red is also my fav colour and I like the carbon fibre look. Might look at plastidip some more since it comes in red and the front wrapped in carbon fibre still is an idea. In my head, this looks nice.

This is what I had in mind if you had a black case.

Ive plastidipped my case and it was uber easy. I dont have a brushed aluminum finish but if I were you, I would tape off the aluminum.

Plastidip is the best way to go.

umm,. painting a CASE is easy, just sand it down so u get a rough surface and spray away xD its almost that easy.

1 = Sand it

2 = Prime it

3 = Paint it

4 = Clear Coat it

5 = You done xD

or with plastiDip its sand it & Dpi it & done =D

think it would look good with RED Dip and a Carbonfiber wrap =D
