M.2? is it worth it?

tekgeek1205

So my new motherboard has a M.2 slot and I was wondering if a cheap entry level M.2 SSD  would be an upgrade to my OS drive.

In my limited experience with m.2 drives, it's good because it takes up no space, and doesn't use any cables. I don't think you will see a huge increase in performance using it as an OS drive, more of clearing up space on your current SSD for more storage

Not really.  If you're looking for night and day differences in Windows and application load times, they really aren't too much faster.  Large transfers though are fantastic.

Unless it's an NVME drive then, no, it will just save on cable management.

G.Skill Rampage V 4x8GB DDR4-2800MHz @ 2916MHz

Also if the m.2 is situated in the middle of the motherboard close to the CPU and pci-e ports, it will get very hot (or so I have read). Some newer motherboards put the m.2 port on the side for this reason.

Love not hate
