Nvidia cards don't work with freesync so I don't see a reason to go with the 770 since I feel that the 280x is probably worth the extra especially if you have freesync as you can prevent screen tearing with a greater fps variance as needed

Also the 770 isn't really an improvement from a 280X.

Save money and buy one of the upcoming AMD vega GPUs.

It will, but you should save up and buy a $250 RX 470 which is way better than an R9 280X.
