That would be dependent on the game in most cases. Say in a game like the witcher 3 the bottleneck wouldn't be that bad and an upgrade to the gpu wouldn't be a waste. In a game like say arma 3 however the fx 6300 would bottleneck any card over a gtx 950 pretty noticeably. In most cases however an overclocked fx 6300 should be ok with say an rx 470 or 480.

I have a FX 6300 CPU, and a GTX 950 2g GPU. I have read that the CPU would bottleneck any type of GPU upgrade I could get, but I was wondering if the bottleneck would be so bad that it would make upgrading the GPU a complete waste of time and money?

no it will only make your frames be lower than on a better CPU and mostly only noticed in CPU bound games, but the 6300 won't cause a bottleneck so hard that it does not make any kind of upgrade worth it. Personally I'd get a 1060 or RX 480 with that CPU but you can go for a 1070 and you will get great fps in most games, especially if you are not a hardcore gamer looking for 144 fps+

Of course it wont be a complete waste of money nor will you get 100% of your monies (I think I spelled that wrong but auto correct didn't care) worth. If you can afford to get a better GPU & want to before a motherboard & CPU upgrade then I say do it.

Awesome, thanks for the input. I don't really play anything hardcore on my PC right now, (just WoW), but I would like to be able to play the Skyrim update that's coming out and other big title games like that. Glad to know I can upgrade my card, thank again.
