Don't feel bad.  I'm a US Southern and we get made fun a lot in TV.  Heck, even when I was out in Cali for six years people made small remarks about my accent.

 

One poor gal that works with my Mom get people complaining about not understanding her.  Which I don't know how considering she is British, and to me and my Mom she speaks English better than most around here.

 

But yeah, it funny how most down here and even when I was out in Cali thought it was the same type of French.  Only reason I know there is a difference was our High School teacher who taught French told us of the difference between the two.  I just don't recall a whole lot of French because I was not really into learning it.  (I did not get to choose which Foreign language to learn)  On the other hand, I'm trying to learn German.
