980 SLI vs 1070

ImperialSteele
Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

About the difference between a 1070 and 1080.

Except the 1070 will perform better in the other 90% of games that don't support multi-GPU.

It will also run cooler, quieter, use less power, have newer features, etc...

TLDR just get the 1070 because it's better in almost every way.

So I have been looking for benchmarks for 980 SLI vs 1070 for a while, and can't find any. Anyone know the performance difference for AAA titles? I'm just wondering for future builds and stuff, and to see just what the performance difference is.

Was going to say the 1070 most likely, as it performs above the gtx 980. Based on these benchmarks, the GTX 1070 performs 30-40% better over the 980. So given that SLI should effectively double FPS, SLI for the 1070 should win.

980 Sli is comparable to the 1080.

So youre 980 may hold a small advantage over the 1070, but the 1070 might beat your SLI because not all games are optimized for SLI.

Just compare it to the 1080. At least thats what Nvidi said. 980 SLI is a 1080.

Single gpu over sli always, Even if the single gpu is 10 percent slower. Even nvidia knows how bad multi gpu setups are.

Well. Non-SLI would always be more convenient than SLI. Apart from that the GTX 1070 is also a newer card, which means that support  for that card is better or will get better in the future. You could always (if your'e considering buying) upgrade from 1 card to 2 down the line and get a better performance boost than it would if you had a third card installed.
