Fastest amd and intel processors to date

Sorry for this dumb question but i got for homework to investigate what are the 5  best numer cruncing processors TO DATE from Intel and AMD, i know the basics about cpus but is there even a list where i can find the top of the line to the lowest performance cpus?

From intel i have been looking at this chart : http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/core/core-i7ee-processor.html
But i dont think the i7s are faster than a 24 core xeon in calculations apps
From amd im a bit in the dark.
Can someone please enligthen me please

I think, for AMD, is the AMD FX 95XX and the opteron. I am not really sure though.

Intel processors all depends on the work load you are trying to perform. Gaming compared to data entry will be 2 different suggestions. I mean if you want to go top of the line data stuff, Intel Xeon. Here is a list of all intel processors that will help fill in some of the gaps of price and performance. http://ark.intel.com/

As for AMD, no clue. I refuse to touch them. I have had way too many issues in my history of AMDs to ever trust one in my own personal machine, or a machine I recommend for my clients.

Don't know if this includes Xeon processors, but definitely great info to have.

Yep, there are. It's made up of user results and you can filter through the list with the search bar at the left.

I love the way you have to scroll really far to see an AMD processor, and the first one to come up is the FX-9370, not the 9590 :P

Er, not sure if you have your monitor upside down or anything.

It would depend on what kind of numbers you're crunching.

These are user results so there probably aren't many people submitting results with cutting edge xeons.

Cinebench is another good place to look for workloads that are very well parallelized. https://us.rebusfarm.net/en/tempbench?view=benchmark

Well you are right i think i wont inculde xeons, just the i7s.

But i think this is the best to exist http://ark.intel.com/products/93790/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E7-8890-v4-60M-Cache-2_20-GHz?

Well, I haven't seen anything better but I don't usually look much into uber expensive xeons.

Haha the i3 is literally rated higher than the FX lol

Yep. Real-world performance will be better with the i3 for most people.

It's a completely different picture with highly parallelized applications though.

The best number crunchers will be intel xeons, or amd opterons.

If you go for just the best number crunching consumer cpus they will be the i7 6950x, 6900k, 5960x, 6850k, 5830k, 6800k, 5820k, and the 4960x.

AMD has the 9590, 9370, 8370, 8350, 8370e, and 8320e, but the i7s will be better.
