Cooling effectives 120mm or 140mm on Top case

Mr. Jyrki

I have Corsair 900D case and still not made big changes for cooling solution what I have in this case.
Right now I am wondering this: Should three 140mm fans (on top of case) have more effective case cooling than four 120mm fans as exhaust as top of case ?

In testing how air flow affects cooling just having airflow is 90% of your temperature change, but in theory whichever moves a larger volume of air would have the most effect

Well... You may end up having negative air pressure. Are you fine with that?

depending on fans the 140's would, all being the same besides fan size, not to mention you can run them at lower rpm

the rough formula would be 4*pi*r^2, the r being the fan size and because its ^2 is grows pretty fast. if you are already moving the total voulme of air in s reasonable time then it will have no effect of cooling. if you are really putting that many fans in your case it will not have any noticeable effect. i've had 3 fans and up to 7 fans with little difference between them.

It would depend on the fans. Fans don't scale linearly between 120mm and 140mm fan designs.

You can usually get more airflow at the cost of higher noise with 120mm's.
