Yes you can boot from the external USB disk bay, or since you're going for Windows 10 just download the installer creator and install Win 10 on a USB.

You cant use a win 7 code with win 10 no, if you want win 10 you will have to buy it annoyingly. Im not sure if you can install win 7 and then get win 10 through the free upgrade
