New to water cooling

Ive been building PC's for a few years now and think its time a consider water cooling my current rig.
Since it would be my first time, it woudlnt be nothing insane.

I would be cooling a 4790K and a 290X lightning.

Could some recommend a good site for parts, some basic things to consider, and what ever i made nee to know before i do this.

Thanks

Only watercool if you OC. Its a minimum of $100 cdn, averages around $130 cdn though.

Yes i OC. My daily OC is weak, 4.5Ghz @1.11v. But have gotten 5GHz stable (kinda hot though) I know water cooling isnt going to benefit my performance much, but it interests me.

Check out singularity computers on youtube to learn about what components you need.

If you just go on a forum, ask what you need, then buy what you're told to buy you will have learnt nothing about watercooling and probably kill your PC with a leak.

Once you can pick what parts you need yourself then you're ready to watercool.

well start with getting all your stuff from EKWB, there well know and having all your w/c from one manufacturer avoids compatibility issues.

soft tubing is a good start as hard line is more difficult especially for unseasoned w/cists.

Basics:

tubing -(flex tubing that meets the measurements fo the fittings, you can choose colored tubing over colored dye if you prefer)

fittings -(regular 10/13mm (3/8'' - 1/2'') fittings should be fine, you buy two fittings for every item your attaching to so gpu x2, cpu x2, rad x2, pump/res x2. you can get angled fittings if you need them.)

radiator -(x2 240mm rads would be ideal if your overclocking both cpu and gpu)

cpu block -(EK supremecy evo is recommended)

gpu block -(this can be tricky, you need to get tthe correct block for your gpu. for instance a msi 980 block wont fit on a evga 980 as the pcb is different so you need to be careful)

reservoir - (i recommend res-pump combo for first timers and saves space)

pump - (D5 pump handles anything)

kill coil / biocide -(kills alge and other things that could grow in your loop)

coolant -(you can buy pre mixes or standard battery top up water, i personally avoid the stuff that looks like multicolored toxic waste as you have to clean it more often)

and for the love of compatibility avoid aluminum

$300-400 CPU only.

$500+ CPU+GPU

Ok, maybe just do my CPU first lol. I plan on keeping my i7 for a few more years, GPU really should be upgraded soon anyways

Would i need a bigger pump for a CPU & GPU? sorry for all the noobie questions?

Nah, you need a better pump if you have more components.

Also, ekwb kits are significantly cheaper than buying the parts separately

A CPU only loop can cost under $300

Is it expandable? if i wanted to add a GPU to the loop?

Yeah, they are. The EK kits contain fully custom-grade parts. However I'd recommend getting one of the newer kits that have D5 pumps. It's really the only pump I'd truly recommend. Also I think it's a good call not watercooling your gpu for now. It's really not worth it to put a 290x under water any more. Just make sure to plan the loop so that it'll be easy to expand it when you decide to put your new card under water.

And finally; don't cheap out when doing custom h2o. It'll come back to bite you in the ass later.

Liquid cooling since 2002.

My 290X is a Lightning, great OC. But like you said not worth it (unless i got a second ) Depending what GPU's are available this Fall during the sales is what ill get. As of right now, it will be an NVidia, unless AMD surprises me with something better but i dont see that happening

You definitely has a good chip. My 4790K isn't stable at 4.9GHz even with 1.40 v.

I can get 4.98 with 1.46, but temps are a lil crazy, with an H105. I like my temps under 70c, just my preference

I tried 4.9GHz with 1.40v. Temperature shots up to 90+C...also with a H105. My chip needs 1.32v to be stable at 4.8Ghz.

Using the stock thermal paste that was on the H105?
