Kinetic coolers finaly a thing?

I just now saw this article about The "Engine 27 1U Low-Profile CPU Cooler"

Personally I'd love to have one like this in something like a HTPC.

I mean they've been a "thing" for 4+ years, but they're only now really starting to take off.

 

I hope they perform as well and quietly as they're hyped up to be. It'd be fuckin SICK to have these.

That's not the point of this type of cooler. The way they work is more efficient than standard air coolers.

If all the hype or whatever holds up, not really all that big. Look at the little Thermaltake one (linked again at the end of this post for laziness sake). It's rated for a 70 watt CPU, and it's only 27mm tall.

From what I've read their tolerances have to be extremely tight, as in almost high capacity hard drive levels of tight. They've always performed well compared to the equivalent mass tower cooler, but I think the difficulty in bringing them to market was the cost to manufacture at required tolerances and reliability long term as wear and handling causing minor damage could easily render a unit ineffective if damage alters the gap size.

A kinetic cooler moves the heastink to more efficient transfer heat to the air and to move the air away with less areas for air to stall.

That sounds cool.  Hopefully these things become widely available before too long.  I certainly wouldn't mind a small CPU cooler that was nice and quiet.
