Hi all,

I have been trying to make a Linux VM in unraid to use as a cheap workstation with a firepro w2100 in it. When I try to boot the OS up, it says 'kernel fatal error' whenever I try to boot into the OS. This issue only occurs when using the GPU and not when the graphics is set to 'VNC'. AMD claims that this GPU is capable of running on Linux OSs, but I am baffled as to why it is crashing my OS before it loads up to the desktop, any ideas?

Thanks,

P.S:

This issue happens on Ubuntu 16.04 (both server and desktop) and CentOS 7

It's a well known fact that AMD hardware has a ton of issues with linux.

You're going to have to search for workarounds and maybe try different distros:

The easiest option would be to use an intel or nvidia GPU, not AMD.

What hardware are you using?

Will it work with other cards?

Its probaby a VT-D/IOMMU problem with your board.
