AMD APU integrated Graphics disable

I am using AMD A8 7600 APU with MSI A68 Grenade mobo. Right now I am using onboard graphics of my APU. But I am going to buy a GPU for my pc tomorrow. How can I disable the onboard graphics ? So I can use only my GPU for gaming. Another thing I have 8 GB RAM installed but it is showing only 6.97 GB usable. Is it beacause the GPU of my APU is using those RAM as VRAM ? Please help friends.

Usually by installing a dedicated graphics card it automatically disables the iGPU. Not sure about apus though.

While you won't necessarily need to disable it, all you need to do is go into your BIOS and disable the onboard GPU.

And yes, it shows 6.96GB usable because 1GB of RAM is allocated to your iGPU.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

Just plug the monitor into the dGPU - that is all you have to do

If you have an older BIOS - go into it and change the allocated memory to 64Mb

This is missing a critical step.  If you have a dGPU and the BIOS/UEFI has not automatically disabled the iGPU, you just need to disable the iGPU in the BIOS/UEFI.  Once you do this, NO ram will be allocated to the iGPU on the APU because the iGPU will be disabled and all 8GB of system memory will be used as system memory rather than a portion be used for graphics memory.  Do not worry about the allocation size, it will be irrelevant, just disable the iGPU.  Consult your motherboard manual if you are unsure of the procedure.

...Also make sure, 100% sure, that your dGPU is working first.  If your monitor is hooked up to the dGPU rather than the video outputs on the motherboard, it's working.

Disabling the iGPU is not something I recommend - it doesn't hurt to have it enabled with 64MB of RAM as that saves you the trouble of clearing CMOS in the event of a GPU failure
