Great place to compare hardware and such. only a 14% boost comparing only the CPU.

Generic benchmarks do not tell the story about game performance at all. The i5-4670K will bottleneck the 1080 hard. A  i7-4790K won't.

Actually as I said I only used CPU..... The great thing about userbenchmarks is that it relies on the community to take info about their computer, GRANTED this is a rough estimate on what you may expect. it is a very helpful tool.

IDK your storage devices but you can get an idea.

Here's a comparison between the 6600K and 6700K with the old Titan X which is considerably weaker than the 1080. The 4670K and 4790K are pretty similar to the 6600K and 6700K, Skylake didn't improve much. As you see the i5 has a hard time keeping up with the hyper-threaded i7.

Dude lol... I was just showing the individual a tool to get an idea on differences to expect. Im not arguing with you that his i5 is going to bottle neck his 1080 if anything I agree with that.

Hi there,

I am wondering if upgrading to the i7-4790K from my i5-4670K will be a performance increase when gaming.

not worth it...increased performance in SOME games...but in MOST games, it'll be the same...hold on to your core i5 for 1 or 2 more years and THEN upgrade to the latest intel core i7 platform.

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |
| Displays: Acer Predator XB270HU 1440p Gsync 144hz IPS Gaming monitor | Oculus Quest 3 VR
