WD Black 2.5" or 3.5" for gaming

Hi,
I need more space because my 850 EVO 1TB is full with my Windows and Games.
I don't want to spend a lot of money in another SSD, I want a regular HDD instead.

 

I want to know if there is any difference between 2.5 or 3.5 to save games and play them through it?.

Not really much difference in my opinion since games usually go to RAM or VRAM. If you have a desktop use the 3.5". If you have a dual 2.5" sled with an empty slot, use the 2.5".

They're both running at 7200RPM. The density of the 2.5" is higher which should allow higher read speeds.

I have a Fractal Define Nano S with a 850 evo and a WD Blue 4TB.

I just have a 2.5" empty next to the SSD, or I can use the mounting mechanism to install a 3.5" next to the front fans.

 

I don't know what to do guys, help....

I'd go with the 2.5" if that's the space you have. Is your 4TB full of porn so much so that games won't fit?

Personally (my opinion) for gaming, I wouldn't worry too much about the cache size unless you're playing CoD and need to load a new level after the host quits for the fifth time.

Cache is (basically) your HDD's RAM. Instead of grabbing each bit and giving it to the CPU, it'll read as much of the information as it can and give what's needed or called for.

for games like GTAV, THE WITCHER 3, FALLOUT 4, etc.. is gonna be better the 3.5  then?.

I wouldn't think it would make a great difference. The other guys can chime in on this one.

the 2.5 is 9.5mm height, will it fit at the back of the case with the door closed?.

I've never used the Nano, so I shan't comment.

I mean... You could get the 3.5" and use double-sided tape to attach it to the floor of the case with the metal cover facing down.

Gaming doesn't really rely on the storage's performance for anything but the loading times so whichever drive you get should do the job perfectly fine. 

Since you are using a desktop computer I'd go with a desktop HDD as they offer better performance. If you are not going to use the drive for anything storage-demanding and will simply put loads of data on it and games I'd rather go with a WD Blue as you are not likely to need the features of a WD Black drive, unless you prefer to have the longer warranty.
