Looking to build a new pc with some borrowed parts from old pc UK £500~

Kurtis

Hello, I'm looking to build a new pc because my current one is starting to get sluggish and behind in games and it's literally starting to come apart at the seams haha.

My current build is:

    Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
CPU
    Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz    46 °C
    Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM
    16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (9-9-9-24) G.Skill Ripjaw
Motherboard
    MSI P67A-GD53 (MS-7681) (SOCKET 0)    49 °C
Graphics
    2353 (1920x1080@60Hz)
    SyncMaster (1680x1050@60Hz)
    Philips 170S (1280x1024@60Hz)
    3071MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti (EVGA)    57 °C
Storage
    111GB SanDisk SDSSDA120G (SSD)    34 °C
    931GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB (SSD)    38 °C
    465GB Seagate ST3500413AS (SATA)    35 °C
Optical Drives
    SONY DVD RW DRU-190S
Audio
    Realtek High Definition Audio

PSU

    Corsair 750hx

Case

    Zalman Z9 plus

I have a GTX 970 that I've been meaning to use which i'll be using in this build, as well as the 2 SSDs in the list.

I'll mostly be using my computer for video gaming, I was looking at potentially getting an i5 6600k, but not sure if that's the best price point for me at the moment.

I'm looking for a budget of around £500, using either micro atx or atx, I want a case that potentially has a basement for cable management as well.

any other questions or things i left out please let me know, and thanks for helping.

Zalman Z9 Plus - GTX 660 TI - i5 2500k @ 4ghz - MSI 1155 Intel P67 - Corsair CMPSU-750HX - 16GB G.Skill Ripjaw 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 - Seagate ST3500413AS 500GB - Seagate ST2000DL003 2TB Backup Storage -  Old CBA to change it.

Everything seems fine. Id suggest you use the 970 (massive improvement) and you should be good to go for a little while longer. If you play horribly optimized games your going to want a cpu with higher single thread performance.

so you think for now I should just stick with this? I will need a new case still this one is on its last legs. 970 doesn't fit in my case (i can just about squeeze it in but i think i might have a mobo issue on that pci e slot)

If you need a new mobo I recommend saving for when you can change it all out. Get a i5 6600k, new mobo, ddr4 ram. Your other parts are completely fine. IF you do upgrade what I just said to, then your computer would last a whole lot longer and you would be able to play almost all games on ultra @ 1080p.

I've been looking at some mobos recently, but not sure what one would be right for me so many to choose from >.< I don't need a tonne of features on the board, some overclocking room maybe, that's about it.

Do you have a CPU cooler you can use that fits 1151 socket? if yes, then you could use the below build of mine as a starting point and either get a cheaper motherboard to take the cost down... like do you want to overclock?

A lot of this can be re-worked depending on your needs and will just be slightly higher than the £500 budget.

would a i7 6700k really benefit me over a i5  6600k for gaming?

Well, gaming is getting more complex, some games are using more cores than others + the GPU of course, if you get the i7 I'd say you're more covered for gaming performance Vs the i5, but the i5 is no slouch either. It's a matter of perspective, plus only the devs really know if more CPU cores will be used in future games. I'd rather cover that base.
