Raid Card

I was wondering what a good 24 port SATA raid card would be. It would have to have the ability to use raid 5. Thanks.

Thats very expensive... I could use 2 12 port ones. Do you have a suggestion for one of those??

Do you NEED raid on the card? The other option would be to just get a couple non-raid cards that can do 24 ports worth of SATA input and then a software RAID. That's not always the best option depending on the use case but it's going to be a lot cheaper.

 

Edit: A couple of these, LSI LSI00244 (9201-16i), should work fine and be a lot cheaper.

Are you set on a raid controller... How about an HBA card instead?

 

Either way, you can get an sas expander to have more ports, and stick with an controller card under $200.

If your motherboard has the ability to disable option rom bios then look for the HP P410 on Amazon/eBay (roughly $50 for the 512MB BBC unit). It has two mini sas connections (that's 8 Santa ports) or you can connect it to a sas expander.

Why not buy a 8 port sas card and a sas expander?
