sometimes closed off system is good.

Besides, for everyone who's complaining, you do have to realize they're not for everyone just like how GTX Titan isn't for average joe gaming.

If you really don't like hindered upgradability (in which you can perfectly upgrade non-retina MBPs) why not have best of both worlds?

SNIP

That is completely irrelevant - that system came out in what, 2006? By technological standards, that pricing and hardware is ancient.

I personally do quite enjoy using my Mac. While yes, generally the hardware can be more expensive, the build quality is vastly superior as is the warranty support & customer service. I find that OSX is a lot cleaner and simpler - no annoying update windows popping up etc. Yes, hardware upgrades in OSX systems are limited by quite a few Windows based systems are going the same way of soldered RAM and soon I wouldn't be surprised if soldered SSD's become a big thing.

What I don't get is this thread or rather the expectations of it. You're asking a PC enthusiast community their opinions on what is predominately a laptop and media device company. You're not asking about a company that makes products that the majority of users consider purchasing.

I hate on apple because of how people believe their products are superior because they cost more, or just because they are apple products.

I guess it's more people who buy their products rather than apple themselves.

Their products are good, just terrible value for money.

Why I dislike OS X:

I voted PC/Windows because:

Performance: All benchmarks I have seen indicates that Windows has higher performance than OS X, even in things like video and photo editing software (even though ignorant people say Macs are great for that). It's hard to find benchmarks for this so it might be different now, but 2-4 years ago Windows won basically all benchmarks (including DAW as well as things like Photoshop because it makes sense to optimize for the platform most people use. Windows also got hardware accelerated playback in Flash before OS X, gets Java patches faster than OS X and the list goes on and on. Things like Adobe's suit was also first available as 64bit on Windows. Up until recently OS X only had a horrendously outdated version of OpenGL (it's still like 2 version behind but up until Mountain Lion they were on OpenGL 3.2, so you could say OS X was stuck with DirectX equivalent features up until very very recently).

Security: Contrary to popular beliefs, OS X is pretty shitty when it comes to security, even Windows is far better. The only reason why OS X doesn't have that many issues with malware is because barely anyone cares to create malware for it, and when people do then Apple goes to extreme measurements to stop it from happening. For example when a Trojan got lose for OS X Apple implemented so that you can't install software on OS X unless it comes from the OS X app store (you can disable this but you get the point). When there was a Java exploit found in OS X (there was a patch available for Linux and Windows but Apple maintained their own version of Java for OS X) they completely dumped their own version and stopped having Java preinstalled. If you look at the list of software with most vulnerabilities, you will find programs such as QuickTime and iTunes on it. They were painfully slow to blacklist some stolen SSL certificates from DigiNotar (Microsoft, Google, Mozilla, Opera and some other were about 1 full month faster than Apple to block these certificates). They are 10 years behind Windows when it comes to some security features such as ASLR.

Hardware compatibility: This one is obvious. OS X is artificially limited to only work on certain hardware. You have a much wider variety of hardware that's supported. I am not limited to whatever GPU Apple wants me to use, or what CPU they want me to use.

Usability: There are a ton of small things in OS X that really bothers me. Quote from the thread "do you find macs really hard to use".

I don't have any issues with copying files from a USB memory stick but there are a ton of things in OS X that I find really annoying.

1) It doesn't follow Fitts's law that button in corners are infinity big. On Windows, when I want to close a program I just drag the mouse cursor to the top right. Since the close button is in the top right, the close button has an infinity big area, and is therefore very easy to press. On OS X, since the close button isn't in the top corner (the stupid menu bar is there instead) I have to be much more careful and aim my mouse.
2) When I press the X in the corner, I want to close the program. I don't want to minimize it. Why do I have to press an X, and then right click the thing in the dock, and then press close in order to close it? Instead of 1 click I need to do 3 clicks.
3) Why does all programs share the same menu bar? If I have two programs running side by side in Windows, I can see the menu bar for both programs. If I have two programs running side by side in OS X, I have to switch which window is active in order to get to the menu. An unnecessary click just to get the menu to show.
4) I was going to cut and paste a file in OS X and that's when I noticed that Finder does not have cut/paste. You can only copy. So I had to first copy the file, then go back to the original file and delete it. I've heard that this has been fixed now but seriously, it should have been added several decades ago.

Those are some of the things that really pissed me off when I was using OS X (hackintosh'd my laptop).

Third party software: Again, pretty obvious. Windows has a lot more software available for it. Some might say that OS X has all the programs you need but I disagree. It still doesn't have anything as good as Foobar2000 for music, nor does it have anything as good as MPC-HC for video. Games is another issue, and as I talked about before cross platform programs such as Adobe's programs often perform worse in OS X.

Why I dislike Apple:
Apple is evil - No seriously, if there is one company I hate then it's Apple. Intel has done some really bad things in the past but they have gotten better. Microsoft was evil before but for the last 10 or so years they have been mostly nice. Google seems to be going downhill in some areas but all the good things they have done massively outweighs any minor bad thing they have done. Apple on the other hand, I can't think of more than 2-3 good things they have done, but I can think of probably close to 100 horrible things they have done, and I mean horrible as in a single one of these things would be enough to make me question even a good company such as Google, but Apple has made tons of them and next to no good things. They do make some good products, but they do extremely evil things such as:

I could probably write a whole book about what a colossal douchebag Steve Jobs was, and that I am seriously disgusted when I hear someone say Steve Jobs was a good man. I am honestly glad that he is dead, I was happy when he died, because I knew that a terrible man had passed away. Might sound harsh but seriously, Steve jobs had a horrible personality and hurt a lot of people, including Woz. I am not hating him because he was the CEO of Apple, I hate him because his personality was horrible, and he was pure evil.

the only thing i really hate about apple is the apple fanboys that say "o my macbook cost me 1500 bucks and your gaming pc cost you 1000 therefore mine is better and faster". then when you provide them proof that they are false they get angry and say well apples arent made for gaming they are made for editing. then again you prove them wrong and say no viruses then again proven wrong they get mad. i also just dont like the os. all in all i dont like them for 4 reasons:fanboys, overpriced, os, trendy

its GE (pause) TechNicks

:o have you ever tried mac os for more than one day i mean its GOD like

I used my friends MAC everyday after school for 2 years, I've had plenty of time on a MAC, I don't like the GUI, but other than that its is a fine OS. Take my opinion with a grain of salt though, I'm one of the few people that love Windows 8.

Back from the dead....

Everyone who is complaining about apple and their prices. About Macs and their hardware.. Screw you!

Stop acting as if your elitist opinion are law.

If you don't like a product don't use it. Don't look at it. and don't smell it.

Always bitching about price to performance. If you had all the money to blow you would go for something you liked stylistically not what is the most useful..

FUCK!

If you had the money I'm sure every single one of you would have a dumb over built system, an ultra book, a ridiculous home server and an entire Steam lib of games you don't play.

Get over yourselves babies.   It's your own choice to use it or not. Stop acting like you actually care about mac users... You're just jealous that they can afford a designer product.

Lol rage  ^_^

The problem with Apple hardware is the price. Of course the hardware itself is not "bad" in itself, but for that price, it is. For the same price as an entry level IMac with a laptop-class core i5, low-end graphics and 4gb of ram I bought an i7 2600 (when it was new), a decent gpu and 8gb of ram plus a bigger monitor. So the hate is not on the Apple pcs themselves, but on the marketing strategies around them. Also, mac os is too closed for my taste, and not being able to build or modify my pc is just something that I can't cope with (although that is just me and I am sure that many other people have no problem with that whatsoever). In other words, the people on this forum are usually quite tech-savvy and look for value, performance and upgadeability in their machines. Apple offers none of that. What it does offer is reliability (usually, and not with mobile devices as they are absurdly fragile) and "style", which some people value more that actual performance.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

my main computer is a mac mini, simply because i prefer OSX over windows , my custom built pc is purely for gaming so i only turn it on for that.

I can certainly see why alot of people would consider apple computers expensive when looking at inside hardware specs, none of there options offer powerfull grafic options , so the only mac computers that can run games decently are the top of the line imacs, i'd never recommend anyone to buy a mac for gaming.

you have alot of valid points , keep in mind that the dell equivalent of the imac's screen is like $700

I really liked Mac OS in terms of usability when I was a mac user. There were not too much programs for it, but everything just seemed to work.

I don't hate Apple I just dislike there fan boys (sorry if you are not this bad.) there is a kid in my school that worships Apple he says that his mac book air is overclocked to 500GHz and he believes that Apple owns Intel and that the only good phone that you can get must start with an i.  One more thing he also believes that the iPhone 3gs has more horse power than a Samsung Galaxy S4

A man without a filter is just chaos walking.
