We have a bunch of devices all running chrome as their main browser. Every once in a while (every ~2 days), they will all give a privacy error on WiFi for about an hour. We have a decent Linksys WRT160N V3 router, hooked up some newer motorola modem, and our ISP is Time Warner Cable. I wouldn't think much of it, but it happens all the time and when it does it happens on all devices at once. however, on my computer with a VPN running it does not happen. Is there any way I can get rid of this? I know a lot about computers and programming, but almost nothing about networking so bear with me. Thanks for any help in advance! PS: I know that router is old and not very good but it has no problem keeping up with the MAXED out 15mb/s crap I get from Time Warner, so please don't tell me to get a new router unless you believe that it could be the router causng the problem.

Yes, that's really strange. Something isn't right on your network. I'm not a tinfoil hat kinda person, but your network traffic is being manipulated somehow. It might just be the router. Or it might not.

Another alternative to Google's DNS is Open DNS: https://www.opendns.com/

Their DNS IPs are: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Give those a whirl and see if the same thing happens. If it still happens. I'd recommend asking at: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/twc

There's quite a few networking/ISP junkies over there who can point you in the right direction (if nobody has anything else to chime in here).

Ok, I'll try those DNS IPs for a bit. I might also get a new router soon, we could use some more range in a couple corners of our house. Thanks for the help!
