Can Copper shims be used for Desktop cpu

Hi i have bought an i5 6500 and it came with a stock cpu cooler  which does not have a copper base on it. As you might know that copper conducts more heat than aluminium i was wondering that if i could sandwich a copper shim between it ( cpu-thermal paste-copper shim-thermal paste-stock cooler ) will this help lowering the temperature a bit about 4-5 degrees...... any help will be appriciated.

While you could do that, it would actually hurt performance rather than boosting it.

If you want better cooling (which isn't really needed, btw), just get an actual cooler.

So instead of going IHS -> heatsink it would have to go IHS -> copper plate -> heatsink?

You realize that it still has to go to the heatsink right?

Unless you exchange the entire heatsink to a copper one, adding a copper plate will just increase temps (by like a fraction of a degree though)

Yes. You could be playing 24/7 non-stop and it would still handle it. Sure, will be loud, but the stock cooler can at least hold you up.

Stock coolers are meant to be able to keep temps in check, while you may experience some throttling and loud woosh noises at extended high loads. Plenty of quieter, more effective options available for under $40 though. As posted above, adding layers of more conductive material won't help, you'd need to completely take the lower conducting material out of the equation
