how much speed (RAM) do i need for gaming?

Go to solution Solved by Blackie Sheen,

1600 for DDR3

2133 for DDR4.

It really doesnt matter much in terms of gaming

RAM speed has very little affect on gaming.  I wouldn't spend the extra money on fancy RAM sticks unless they have heat spreaders that compliment your build.

2133mhz is fine for most scenarios.

ram speed or ram amount? See if your board supports xmp profile.

As for ram amount it depends on the game. Some games will use 1GB of ram or less, some will go up to 4GB and some will use loads (like space engineers).

8 GB is barely enough for me. My pc uses around ~70% while gaming

I have 16GB and in some memory hog games, I exceed 8GB easily. Especially in badly ported games. I would strongly recommend 16GB of ram OP. For example, Just Cause 3 has reached over 12GB of RAM on my PC once, and Arkham Knight over 11GB.

Ram speed matters in CPU dependant games, most games are majorly GPU dependant but stuff like planetside 2 is HEAVILY dependant on a strong CPU and ram for it to eat

For DDR3 above 1333 is mhz is alright. For DDR4 2133mhz should be fine. I am currently using 1600mhz with my 16gb kit of DDR3. Size does not have an effect on speed.

I use 1600mhz... It is perfectly fine for gaming and honestly you don't need any faster RAM than that.

Edit: Also that member was just trying to help, no need to respond to him in that way.

1333 is slower :P Its just the speed how fast the ram comunicates with the cpu.
