What are the meaning behind cpu codename?

Guest

I read somewhere that Haswell or whatever the cpu codename was named after some location. I am curious to know where all the name came from

Every maker usually follows a pattern

AMD gpus go by islands, or tropical locations like hawaii, tonga, tahiti.

Nvidia gpus go by scientists, Kepler, Maxwell, Pascal.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •

Kaby Lodge is located 60 miles north of Wawa in Northern Ontario

Ivy Bridge is likey named after a bridge in england

220px-IvyBridge.jpg

I don't know where skylake is based on, possibly florida idk

And sandy bridge is weirdly named

Sandy Bridge is a rather boring example. The chip was originally named "Gesher", which means "bridge" in Hebrew. However, Intel discarded the name when it was discussed that Gesher is also the name of a former unsuccessful political party in Israel. While Sandy Bridge sounds like a place on a map, it isn't: "Despite sharing its name with a bridge in Singapore and a historic town in West Tennessee, Sandy Bridge isn’t named for an actual place," Intel said. "Instead, it’s a result of a switch, and a suggestion from upper management following a meeting with analysts."

Yeah I couldn't find intel saying it though, granted that is the likely answer but technically sandy bridge is a location but the name wasn't based on it

AMD cpus I think are named after rivers for the fx series.
