How do meditators work?

How are moderators chosen and what all do they do? Just curious about it

They are chosen by probably other moderators and admins and they do a variety of things. Mostly go over reports made by normal users like me and you about stuff. They from there can do what they see as fit, in terms of moderating and making sure the rules are followed (for example they can edit posts to remove ad hominem, send users warnings via PM or via the warning system about what they did wrong, etc.)

They can also of course (temporary) ban multiple offenses users, they make sure spambot posts and accounts are deleted, etc. etc.

Moderators (and administrators with them) essentially police the forum, making sure that the rules are followed and dealing with rule breakers as they come up -- either as encountered or through reporting by other members. How they are chosen depends on who runs the forum. I've been a moderator on a couple forums, and I was chosen in those instances for standing out among the crowd and becoming known to the existing mods and admins such that I was nominated when they needed a new one. How they're selected on LTT, however, they're unlikely to actually say if it's anything more specific than the existing moderators and administrators nominating people.

They aren't chosen, they are born into the life of a moderator. Nobody really knows who they are or where they come from, they just rise from the ether of the interwebs and swing the mighty ban-hammer justly and swiftly. I think of them as demi-gods; not to be trifled with but still part human.

Basically this and cleaning things up like duplicate and misplaced threads.

People just meditate man, to each there own. Some do it for spiritual growth.
