Why we don't have HDR monitors?

PedroRND

NVIDIA Series 10 supports HDR, but we don't have HDR monitors. I'm wondering why such limitation on PC side? The new Xbox One have HDR, a lot of TVs support this feature and looks to be a nice one, not just gimmick.

I want it so much to play Forza Horizon 3...

There are a couple reasons why you don't find too many HDR monitors yet (But they are coming) the first being that it's a relatively new certification, not new technology as such, but it's a collection of 4 main things; 10bit depth, DCI-P3 colour space, a contrast of 0.05nits - 1000nits If it's a LCD or for OLED it has to be 0.0005nits - 540nits and lastly there has to be software support.

Getting all those things to work together without running into issues is very complex, and DP 1.3/4 is also needed for 4k at a certain refresh rate to push 10 bit colour depth (Can't remember what refresh rate right now so wont quote it.)

But there are loads of HDR displays announced, mainly in 4k and 3440x1440 varieties (Although I haven't kept fully up to date recently) but I'm sure more will come at 1440p as well if they haven't been announced already.

Edit: Also I'm not sure if this is the case because I haven't kept up to date, but I can't imagine that there are too many panels that actually support HDR, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a slight shortage of availability which is delaying things.
