I don't feel like paying 88 dollars for windows, I wanna go Linux and I know and like the idea it's open source. But what is the best distro of Linux that closest to windows, something that's good all around. So whats the best one for me?

I was looking at the more popular ones like Ubuntu and mint, but I was wondering if there was anything more that just these Two. Sorry I didn't specify.

I would honestly just recommend that you go to g2a and buy windows 10, it'll probably be around $30.  If you decide to go with g2a please use my referral link

Just to let you know that ReactOS isn't part of the Linux kernel. It tries to be Windows in every way, but from scratch.

I know but it is very much a Windows clone and he asked for as close to Windows as possible, it even features the crashes!

Strange, because Win 10 hasn't been crashy on my dad's laptop. However, when I was using Win 7, I had a different story.

Chalet OS 16.04, is basicly Xubuntu XFCE DE with a Windows 7 look and feel.

But you can basicly tweak any distro to look like windows.

it mainly depends on what kind of DE you like the most.

XFCE with the Whisker menu, is pretty similar to the Windows7 startmenu in terms of looks.

But yeah it realy is a matter of personal preference.

 

 

About what distribution you should go with is also a matter of personal preference.

But its also a matter of what kind of hardware you have.

And then i am mainly pointing towards which particular graphics card.

At this very moment, Nvidia cards work better with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS based distributions, and distributions that are based upon the 4.4 LTS kernel.

They have better driver support then AMD.

There are open source AMD drivers available that work with certain kernels.

But its still a bit of a pain in the ass.

AMD is working on some proprietary drivers, but how long thats gonne take? who knows.

 

Users that have AMD graphics cards who want to run a Ubuntu based distribution, are mainly better off staying with the 14.04LTS versions.

Because on these versions AMD proprietary drivers work.

And like Linux mint 17.3 for instance, its still supported upto 2019, so that pretty much get you covered.

If you want gaming, stick with Windows. You will under no circumstances be sufficiently happy with any other operating system. Especially not with Linux.

Kubuntu could be the right thing for you. It's an Ubuntu distribution but with the KDE desktop, which is kind of similar to Windows.
