best £50-£150 headset (built in mic req)

ShadowCaptain

Hey guys, now I know the whole modmic/headphone routine, but my girlfriend doesnt particularly like it (im still working on that)

So I guess, if she MUST have a gaming headset, what would be the best option

I recommended the Hyper X Cloud (especially as they come in pink) but are there any other options? She wants to spend sub £100 but I would happily contribute more, so budget up to £150

I can vouch for the HyperX Cloud. Super comfortable, great noise isolation, good sound stage, and the bass isn't overblown unlike many other options.

I would say either Razer Krakens or Sannheiser Game Ones

I currently own the Razer Krakens, brilliant sound quality (Very Bassy) and decent quality mic, very high quality construction and customer support is very good, the only major downside is Synapse, the program required to run them, its awful. There are several versionf of the Krakens (One comes in pink) I will link both major versions below as well as the sennheiser, being sennheiser they will sound very good and the mic will be passable but I doubt there will be many problems with them.

Sannheisers

Pink Krakens (Headpone Jack)

Normal Krakens (USB)

Ah yes, they are a very particular market, the Audio technicas are a good choice, althought I have heard they're quality is either hit or miss, but good luck with whatever you choose.

You should also consider whether or not you want open  headphones. This will be just personal pref and depends on your environment.

Its her quiet bedroom, and she mostly just skypes and games with me and some mates

so not really relevant, she is no audiophile, and is currently using a £7 chinese brand headset

I just want her to have something quality, hate throwing money at bad brands

I am using Steelseries Siberia 650

https://steelseries.com/gaming-headsets/siberia-650

And i never had more comfortable headphones, audio quality is great, you can turn on/off the mic whenever you want just by turning a wheel on the headphones, the volume of the headphones is also adjustable already on them(with a wheel on the other side). The Mic is retractable and has flexible mount so you can change the position of it however you want and it holds there.

The included sound card is a nice feature giving you true Dolby 7.1 surround sound :) Included are the card, 2m extension cable, single jack adapter, jack and headphones adapter.

Dont know what else to say about them, i love them :)

Oh they come in white :P

I was lucky and i got mine for around 90 pounds, now you might be able to get some for 100 pounds totally new no problem i think if you look around.

I got one of these bundled with my motherboard... https://www.amazon.co.uk/SteelSeries-Siberia-Full-Headset-Microphone/dp/B002Q8IHDQ

It's surprisingly good as a gaming headset. Putting "gaming" in bold because, if you want it for music there are much better options out there. Its strong points are: Crystal clear microphone with great noise cancellation which can retract when not used, and a very comfortable and light design that can sit on your head for hours without hurting. I also fake a 7.1 surround through software sometimes and it works great, but I feel this headset is mainly made for comms rather than anything else, and it's awesome for it. It's open type, which means you can have your games play sound through regular speakers, listen to your voice comms, and still hear your game.

They are "OK" for music. I'm a little biased, having heard expensive speakers and headsets, so I'm just letting you know that high end sound is not their strong point :) Lacking some lows, etc. The surround effect was an example but in theory all headsets should support it. It's a bin-aural gimmick, still uses stereo speakers... But yeah, if she uses them for long sessions then getting something light-fitting can be a game changer too.

If she doesn't want cables, then you could look into wireless sets. Just be advised, sound quality is going to be even worse if you don't go for the more expensive models. There is also this http://www.modmic.com/products/modmic-4-0, which can be paired with any headset that doesn't have a MIC (usually headsets that focus on sound quality) but the whole thing could be out of your budget then.

I know all about the mod mic, i said it in my first post, and modmic sent me one to review on my youtube channel :D haha

Its for my girlfriend so its convincing her its what she wants, and she is picky about what she will get
Audio quality is the primary concern as she watches youtube.. listens to music, skypes and games all with the same headset

as I say budget is whatever we decide to spend could get some DT770s and modmic for £150 but she isnt sure that is what she wants

im aware of binarual audio through stereo speakers (hurray for ASMR haha)

I just havnt personally used a lower cost gaming headset for a while so its hard to know about anything semi decent

Oh, I feel like an idiot. I read your OP but somehow I missed the modmic part, sorry.

Imo, if music is a priority then steer clear of gaming headsets. Their priorities are just different, so you wouldn't be getting value for your purchase. They are "OK" to "Pretty good" for music, but not "Great". You could find a much better sounding headset for similar pricing, with less gaming related features. For music playback, I'd also recommend closed type, as background noise sometimes can ruin the experience.

Thing is, usually headsets that include a mic have worse playback than ones that don't have a mic. I think the DT770+modmic would be a pretty nice and high end option if it's in your budget tbh. You could use some velcro straps to pair the modmic's cable with the headset's and achieve the result you are after.

Edit: I didn't know you had a Youtube channel :P Care to share?

That's even more expensive :) But well, cheaper gaming headsets usually lack the sound quality, that's their catch. Pick your poison, heh.
