I was wondering what you guys think most of out servers are 500gb SSD plus 6tb hard drive for backup and then everynight that back up gets backed up on another computer, but now I have to build a new server so I'm thinking 8 80gb hard drives in raid 5 vs 1 ssd?

the main this is performance cost and redundancy.

SSD = $150

Hard drive = $5 each

SSD fails computers offline until we install a backup and restore everything from the newest backup on the hard drive

vs

Hard drive if one fails just pull it out and replace it computer keeps running like nothing happened unless 2 or more fail then being the only backup is the daily one from the main computer we might lose a days worth of information.

How much hdd space do you need?

Id stay away from 80gb hdds there going to be over 8 years old now

What OS and hardware.

What are you using the storage for.

Id probably run dual ssds in raid 1
