Anyone else Colour-blind?

So I was reading an article on FB about colour blindness, as you do..., and I started thinking about colour-blind gaming. Not many games have a colour-blind mode (Borderlands 2 is the only game I know that it's standard) and since 1/12 men and 1/200 women have it I think it should be more common.

 

So does anyone have any gaming related stories/insights about this? For example when I used to play Minecraft on servers I found it hard to distinguish yellow from green. Also I struggle in CS:GO to see people on some maps and when they're fart away.

 

This thread can also act as an AMA if people have any questions for me/others.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm mostly Red/Green/Brown & Blue/Purple colour blind, but I also find it hard to do Yellow/Green/Orange and Light blue/Light pink/Light grey sometimes.

Star Wars: Battlefront has it, just to let you know. I really wish the Battlefield games had it (although I think they included it in some updates so you don't shoot your own squadmates).

I bet many will struggle when people start to fart away.

One member on this forum is doing research on it, so color impaired people can see the world in color just like everyone else.

I'm pretty bad with differentiating between brown and green and to some extent red as well. I also struggle to distinguish between darker blues and purples. I'm not a serious / competitive gamer so its never really caused me an issue in that respect, but it has at work. Most games I play can be done so without needing the colours, e.g. DIRT, minecraft, UT, Tomb Raiders FF etc. could all be black and white and still playable (though not as enjoyable).

 

I was told by my optician that due to my colour blindness my brain process patterns better so camouflaged objects are more obvious to me as I see the edges of the object and am not so easily put-off by colours... how true that is I don't know, but I don't see what my optician has to gain by lying to me. 

 

I tend to find that I think more about what I'm looking at and infer the colour rather than see it (if that makes sense), so I see grass and infer green. It does mean that when people are really sunburned or use to much fake tan that I just don't notice it until it's pointed out to me (and even then I struggle to tell the difference).

On a non gaming side note, someone should really tell schools how to make colour-blind graphs/tables. Too many times It's been a red line and a green line, or a blue and purple line. I mean they even make the backgrounds not white for people with autism or something like that, (Apart from my history teacher, thats why I like him), where it's only like one person in the whole school who is affected. For god's sake it's 1/12 males are colour-blind...

Yes. It's one reason I gave up Modern Warfare 3. I'm at a huge disadvantage on a number of maps.
