When I attempt to wake up the computer and the fans spin on? If thats what your asking, yes they do stay lit.

I would try using this option:

And then next time it happens go to event viewer to find out what caused it to hang.

My BIOS looks like its 20 years older than yours, lol. I also cannot seem to find that option. I see load setup defaults, but not optimized.

Using Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard, just set it to "Load setup defaults"?

Can you turn the display off and on?

And it's not your display turning off?

After you restart the PC after that happens please go to event viewer and look at any events from right before you hard-shutdown the PC.

I guess in this case you'll be looking for Critical, Warning, and Administrative (not to common).
