PC won't wake up.

Hey guys,

 

Whenever I turn on my PC from being shut down, everything seems fine and dandy. I then leave my computer while going to school or having a meal and come back and it is asleep, I shake the mouse, hit enter and all that and nothing happens. This started happening after I installed my new graphics card ( gtx 1070) which happened a few days ago (Sept 5). Does anyone have any idea why this happens? Is there some way to fix it?

I suppose I can do that for now, but I am looking for an actual fix, not a sacrifice. I like being able to leave things open while going to sleep, but not have the subtle fan noise in the back.

Still working on that. What are your specs?

Would that setting somehow change automatically? It used to not be a problem and all of the sudden it is now. Do I have to restart and enter BIOS during bootup to get there?

Not sure how it would change, but you do need to do the restart/button-mash to get into the BIOS. Are you on the latest version of your BIOS? I've had random issues with sleep, and BIOS updates would fix it. I do have an X99 Deluxe, so there have been quite a bit since I got it last year; if you're on an older mobo the updates are probably less frequent. Can you wake the PC from sleep by pressing the power button?

I have tried that once, will try again and see what happens.

I would check to make sure. Some BIOS default the trigger to the power button or key press. The other issue could be a registry edit.

 

Have you uninstalled the AMD drivers before getting the new GPU?

I did not do that. I deleted them after installing new drivers. Is this a problem?

EDIT: I did just hit delete on them, not an uninstall option or anything like that.

Yes. Registry edits have to be done when installing new programs. If the deletion caused any of the edits by the GPU it could cause issues.

So how do I go about fixing this?

Use DDU to uninstall all video drivers and then reinstall Nvidia's latest.

Just uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, put comp to sleep and once again, it didnt wake up.

Yes. Your BIOS should have options to Wake on LAN/Power/Key/Mouse/etc.

Computer is restarting now, (switched to laptop to update my progress) Every time I restart it scans and repairs drive, is that because of the hard shut down that I have to do? Is something maybe wrong with my HDD? Really struggling with this problem.

Went into BIOS, could not find option for what you are talking about, can you help me with what that may be?

EDIT: When I say computer doesn't wake up, fans spin up, RGB on graphics card works, just no display gets sent to monitor. Not sure if this would help with anything.

It should be under Boot or System settings around where the "Save and Exit" is. But I haven't used an Asus mobo aside from server boards that still have grey backgrounds.

In that tab, only options such as 

"Exit and save changes

exit and discard changes

Discard changes

Load setup defaults" are found

It should be there. @Enderman Do you have experience with Asus boards?
