Quiet PC Build for 4k gaming

Valentin7

Hi everyone,

I am looking to get some PC components and I will appreciate your help and recommendations.

1. Budget & Location
Location is UK, budget is around £1500, only for case, power supply, cooling, Motherboard, CPU, RAM, graphics card.

2. Aim
4k Gaming at 60fps, mostly FPS games.
I want a quiet PC, as quiet as possible.

3. Monitors
I already have a 4k monitor (Dell P2715Q 27"), with no HDMI 2.0 support, but it can do 4k at 60Hz over the display port. I guess it will be fine for the new built.

4. Peripherals
I already have a korsair k70 keyboard and m65 mouse. Happy with them for now.

5. Why are you upgrading?
My PC is old, built around 2010-2011. It cannot display 4k at all.

I already have my eyes on the following components, but I am open to suggestions.
 - be quiet! SILENT BASE 800 Computer Case
 - be quiet! BK019 - Be Quiet! BK019 Dark Rock Pro3 Heatsink & Fan
 - EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SC Gaming with ACX 3.0 Cooling 8 GB GDDR5X PCI Express 3    Graphics Card - Black
 - Intel Core i7 6700K Processor (4 GHz, 4 Core, 8 Threads, 8 MB cache, LGA1151 Socket Box)

I already have a 240GB Intel SSD which I am planning to use with this new PC.

No need for a Win10 licence , will get that separate.

Thanks,

Valentin

Yes, there's no point in going with an older architecture at this budget. Skylake supports DDR4, improved architecture and the voltage regulator is not on the CPU anymore, it is on the mobo which results in lower temps.

This is ok but I'd cut it a bit to fit dual 1070s (or a single 1080ti once it's released, should be announced this month most likely)

So as the OP mentions he has an SSD already we can set aside the hdd and still end up with this:

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£293.88 @ Aria PC)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 67.8 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler  (£67.25 @ Amazon UK)

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3400 Memory  (£90.54 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card (2-Way SLI)  (£399.99 @ Ebuyer)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card (2-Way SLI)  (£399.99 @ Ebuyer)
Case: be quiet! Silent Base 800 w/Window (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  (£115.99 @ Novatech)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  (£79.99 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £1575.06

I don't really think 240 GB's of space is enough if he is going to be installing a lot of games or has a billion vidoes/movies on his PC.

And, I personally don't think SLI 1070's are worth it over a single 1080 which is also cheaper. Many games don't even support SLI and don't scale well.

True: this is why I said that this really needs to be an eventual 1080ti build. I don't think a single 1080 is quite enough for 4k. I am expecting the 1080ti to be a bit below dual 1070s since that's where the Titan X Pascal sits, I just don't recommend the Titan X Pascal because it's grossly overpriced.

But your previous point about storage is noted, the CPU cooling solution would need to be swapped to a 212 evo and a 1tb mechanical though but my internet access to PC part picker is crawling so I don't feel like re-editing the list.

Thanks everyone for all your time. I do have a better ideea now of what I am going to get. All options below. I do have a couple of questions if someone please clarify.

 1) Should I go for a water cooling option? Or the be quiet! air one is better? I am mostly interested in a quiet system.

 2) I am assuming the motherboard does support an extra GPU in the future for SLI. Correct?

 3) Is it worth getting 32GB of memory instead of 16GB for this build?

 4) Is it worth waiting for a 1080ti as it was suggested above?

 5) Will this system support an upgrade to 1080ti in the future? I mean will the motherboard/CPU/memory be good enough for a future generation GPU?

 6) Will the power supply support an extra GPU in SLI? For example an extra GTX 1080 in the future.
