They do a lot more then just cancer research alzheimer's and parkinson's as well.

How safe is this? Do they have any access to your PC other than the Data you send them?

It is safe, it will not hurt your computer, or let other people access it they will only send the data, which will be processed by your cpu/gpu and then it will be sent back.
