Tech Education Software makes a huge mistake

21rkosta

my school is making us go through an online tech ed course called ignition i have only been doing it for about 10 minutes and i allready noticed a problem, to talk about cpu speed they used the clock speed of the cpu instead of something better such as a benchmark score

@VerticalDiscussions the best thing is that its a huge program used in like hundreds of schools and is supported by a NHL league (us hockey league)

Well dayum. But thats a dumb way to compare/explain about cpu's x-x. That site probably will tell you the Iphone 6S is from 2004 and that the Note 7 is from 2006 lol. And that the 6950X is quite weak because of its low clock speed.

@VerticalDiscussions also i had to pick out computers and there was one that was realy cheap and had a lot of processing power but had no monitor, and there was one that had a monitor but was less powerful and had less storage and was way more expensive, but it sayed you were supposed to go with the one that comes with the monitor because it was better, like do they think kids are so stupid that they do not understand how to order a monitor seperatly

As a unit of measurement, its actually not the worst thing. Within the same generation, a 3.6ghz processor is indeed faster than a 3.3ghz one.

@GoodBytes well there comparing processor speed in the most non descriptive way, there like, heres a 1.8ghz desktop vs 2.5ghz desktop, while theres a lot of other variables like cache, core count, synthetic performance, (ect)

They're talking about the average consumer.

If someone was to buy a PC right now, they'd want the complete package. The average consumer doesn't give a damn which ones faster.

@Rune well yes, but if these kids get there information from this site they could be like, oh this pc has 3.5ghz processor (old amd) but this one only has a 3.2ghz processor (new intel, somewhere between 4 and 6 cores) il pay the extra money for the 3.5ghz processor

When they realize it has shit performance and they can't get their money back, they will learn and be more proactive about keeping up to date in the future and be better for it.

And the one with the monitor is the best.

It has everything you need right there.

@Rune yes, but they should have touched on stuff like looking at a website such as cpuboss to compare cpus on computers so this mistake would have not been made

Maybe its a make work project for the teachers.

Could also be school is getting money from an organization which in turn got cash from a donation. Which means a little bit of a scam is going on somewhere along the line.

Yeah still could be a scam even though the program is free.

I forget the term used.

When companies put on a face mask to make themselves look good, like Coca Cola and just about every other for-profit business out there.

Even charities do the same thing.

CPUBoss is actually pretty terrible. ARK is a much better resource for comparison.
