no crossfire/SLI as long as you don't have already a card.

If buying new, get the best single card you can afford and then go crossfire/sli if you reached the (almost) highest end of the product stack. The reason is that scaling is never perfect (the range is between 0% and 90%, most is around 50-60%) and your cards run hotter cause less distance between gpus and if one game does not support CF/SLI, you are bound to the performance of the single card.

Basically, get in this case a 1070. More VRAM and performance.

Both is a shit choice.

 

Gake a GTX 1060 which is 70% faster than a single GTX 960.

Thus similar fast as GTX 960 SLI. But much cheaper.

 

SLI / Crossfore with 2 slow entry/midclass cards was a stupid idea 5 years ago, and is still a stupid idea.

Even more so, because it gets more and more difficult to implement a good Multi-GPU support in newer games.

 

Right now, only SLI is a good choice, if you play at at least 1 UHD Monitor, and the Performance of 1 GTD 1080 / Titan X (Pascal) is still NOT enough.

THEN you can sli.

 

Even GTX 1070 sli is not a good choice because you can just go for a 1080.
