Upgrading to Skylake or waiting for next generation

Hi, I just ordered a 1440p 165hz monitor and I realized that my CPU might not be too happy about that. My gtx 1080 is already bottlenecked by my CPU so ncreasing resolution is not gonna help the case. I am wondering what is the best thing to do - upgrade to 6700k or wait and pray that ZEN is gonna live up to the hype? Kaby lake wont show that much improvement either. Right now I have i5 3570k @4.2Ghz

For gaming your 3570k should still be fine. However if you think you really need an upgrade, first consider a i7 3770k, so you don´t need a new mobo and RAM.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X PBO GPU: Asus Strix RTX 3090 OC Mobo: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3600Mhz CL17

CPU Cooler: Corsair H150i Capillex Storage: Samsung 980 Pro and 970 Evo 1TB Samsung 860 EVO 1TB Crucial MX300 525GB WD Black 2TB PSU: Corsair HX1000 Case: Corsair 500D SE RGB 6x LL120

I don't see why you would wait, skylake will still be a very viable option for the next 2-3 years and are you sure the 3570k is bottlenecking the GPU?

The 6700k will last you for many years to come. I personally upgraded from my 4690k because of bottlenecks in 144hz gaming at 1080p. It will be worth the jump to the 6700k IMO.

upping the resolution will help your gpu stretch legs more than at a lower res. I wouldn't bother upgrading just yet, AMD has shown some interesting IPC improvements so ZEN may cause a pricing war

in some games yes but not that I ever get under 60fps. but that was at 1080p. Now i need 165 fps at 1440p. and waiting would be ok if ZEN will become a miracle

Zen is going to be hella expensive when it comes out, its the first big major "update" to AMDs CPU lineup. You can bet myself along with countless others will be buying just to benchmark them.

why do you need 165fps? I'm guessing you bought a g sync monitor?

A 1080 can't do 165 on 1440p (on the most demanding titles anyway), even if you had a 6700k. Anyhow, Zen is not going to be the miracle you want. If AMD's claims are true - which we should take with a grain of salt, mind you -, it's still not going to be as good as Skylake for gaming.

If I was in your place, I'd wait for Kaby. The 3570k can hold your ass until then.

I guess I will wait if it actually bottlenecks me on the games I care about

so I can get promoted to global in csgo... haha no, I play mostly competitive fps games so high refresh rate is a nice bonus
