his board is a P8Z77 board

 

it supports CrossFire only because the second PCI-E slot is only x4 PCI-E 2.0

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

A single 1070 is better than doing crossfire.

If you need more performance, sell the 480 and buy something better.

I agree with @Enderman but since he already has 480 then getting another one is not a bad choice. Unless he could sell it for good price

 

The RX480 is very new and has a really high resale price currently.

Selling it for $200 and then buying a 1070 would give a much bigger performance increase than spending another $200 for a new 480.

Also no CF compatibility, multi-GPU issues, excessive heat and noise, PCIe lanes taken up, etc...

A single GPU is just more elegant.

Instead of planning for a second one, you should plan to sell your current GPU and use that money to buy a better one.

Unless you have top of the line cards like a 1080 or titan XP, you should not be doing multi-GPU.

I see the point.... card is within it's 15 day return policy I'll see if they still have the 1070 and swap it
