Good laptop for games / university

Hi everyone! I'm currently looking for a good laptop to get me through a few years.

I'm looking for preferably 15", definitely not 17", around 1000€, i'd be using it for the university ( computer engineering ), gaming and a bit of everything ( i like to play with 3d modelling, video / photo editing, programming and so on... ).

The one i've been looking for the past few days is the Dell Inspiron 15 7559. Bang for the buck, 899€ for i7 6700HQ, 1TB hdd, 8 gb of expandable ram, gtx 960m, 1080p and overall good looking. Unfortunately there are a few downsides, one being the m.2 slot as it is SATA and not NVMe, and the ethernet port is only 10/100 !! Like seriously wtf?

I don't really care having 4K touch display or the best looking device ever, but i'd like something decent that lasts a few years.

I'd kill to have an XPS 15, but even the base model is too pricy.

Do you know of any nice device similar to this? Or maybe some upcoming ones?

Thanks a lot!

There's the Acer aspire V nitro. I'm looking into it as well but I'm hesitant because Acer has a reputation for being shit.

I could get:

  • Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-592G-76FZ ( 6700HQ, 8GB RAM, 1TB and 960m with 2GB ) for 899€
  • Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-592G-74F6 ( 6700HQ, 16GB RAM, 1 TB and 960m with 4GB ) for 1000€
  • Dell 7559-5054 ( same but 8GB of RAM and 960m with 4GB ) for 890€

The thing that drives me now to the Aspire V is the USB Type C port, futureproofness yeah!, but the battery looks smaller, it's a bit less good looking than the Dell ( no big deal ) and the price is significantly higher, 110€, but i'd have the 10/100/1000 Ethernet and a Type-C port. I can't find any information about the m.2 slot on the Acer, is it available or not?

Yeah, but i don't think i'm gonna be able to spend more than 1000  .

There's one last thing that's keeping me from buying it now, the Weight.

It's a pretty heavy laptop, 2.5Kg / 5.6 pounds, considering that i'll be bringing it everyday with me, the aspire v nitro weights more or less the same :/

Yeah there are always compromises with a budget I'm afraid. Anyway if you got anymore money there's an Asus with i7 6700hq, 8gb ram, 1tb 7200rpm HDD+128ssd, gtx 970m 3gb VRAM, weights 1,9kg going for 1300€ on Amazon France. Hope i helped :)

I'm actually also looking for the xps 13 right now, I'ts snappy, beautiful and extremely portable, yet, i'd like a bit more power, as i'll be moving constantly, it's a tough decision.

This is actually fantastic, i never knew about this company, however, the portability problem remains, as i think about it it becomes more and more important.

1300€ is 1450$ but it's probably cheaper than that in the US. In France stuff costs more
