Inquiry about Jay's new video

So Jayztwocents just put out a new video that basically says that by raising the power and temp limit, you can essentially boost performance. Well I have had some issues with that. My gtx 980 ti is able to play most games fine but in intense games it refuses to use more than 70 or even sometimes 60% of the cards power, the gpu is at 99-100% usage while playing the game and the temps are 60 or below but the power is insane it isn't doing a thing. What is causing this? What limit am I hitting?

Are you hitting temp limits or voltage limits?

if your gpu is aleady at 100%, raising the power and temp limit will not give you more performance. raising the power and temp limit is only usefull if you at say 70% gpu but 100% power....

neither I just stated that my temps aren't high and my voltage can go as high as 87+ so I don't see the issue

Well someone has posted why. You should have a read about it. And I do agree if you're at 99-100% GPU load, your power limit will not climb any higher.

well basically same "issue" with my g1 gaming 970: The power delivery is just so overkill, that the chip (the actual processing core) can't even max out the power limit at stock (boosted) speeds. These cards are designed to be overvolted (and heavily oced). But that's not the case on most reference pcbs like in the video with the reference 1080.

then just be happy to have so much headroom. in my experience, what jays told us effects most times only the reference cards and cards with poor cooler/power delivery.

I never saw the core clock fluctuate that much like on the 10 series cards, all cards I have seen until now stayed at one load frequency a whole gaming session (reference gtx 950, my g1 gaming, EVGA 780 SSC) and they boosted way over the advertised speeds. My g1 gaming and the 950 both ran at continuos 1367 MHz without touching anything, so pretty much a good oc right out of the box.
