rx 470 vs Asus 970

Goot

Looking to spend $200 for gpu. Was looking at the RX 470 for $200. Today the ASUS 970 is on sale for $230, with a $30 rebate! Looking to see what people have to say, I don't see too much on Asus GPUs

Performance is pretty much the same.

Go for the 470 is you want better dx12 performance.

970 if you want better dx11 performance, or an aftermarket cooler.

that compares synthetic rendering workloads and not actual games

RX470 fares better in some games, while GTX970 in others

interestingly, in RotTR DX12, GTX970 pulls ahead xD

the RX470 is much closer to the RX480, thus GTX1060 - and both of those are ahead of the GTX970

So the rx470 would be the best way to go?but either one would be feasible?

it really depends from the game to game - nVidia had time to bake the GTX970 drivers all these years, the RX470 is kinda' raw (for how long, dunno) :P

the major thing I dunno, if they tested the RX740 custom board against a reference GTX970 - that's a big one because custom GTX970s get higher perf

let's break it down based on the video from DF I posted above

  • The Division - RX470 pulls ahead very slightly
  • The Witcher 3 - GTX970 sight advantage
  • RotTR DX12 - GTX970 substantial advantage, I'm quite surprised here
  • Ashes - RX470 pulls ahead substatially
  • FarCry Primal - maybe GTX970 has a tiny bit advantage, then again, maybe not
  • Hitman DX12 - substantial advantage for the RX470
  • Assassins Creed Unity - the RX470 pulls ahead in 1st part, but GTX970 finishes 1st ... let's say they both fought well
  • Crysis 3 - GTX70 has the edge

here's another comparison: http://hwbench.com/vgas/radeon-rx-470-vs-geforce-gtx-970

The RX 470 would be the better option, going ahead.

For me, it depends on if you want nvadia or AMD. Like for me, I use nvadia shadow play and nvadia stream, so when choosing between a 470 and a 960, i chose the 960. But for performance, the 470 is a LITTLE bit better. Its mainly up to if you want amd or nvadia

Well it's going to be my first GPU. So at the moment I don't have a preference

970 is considered VR ready which is something to consider

But you should probably get a 1060 or 480

ROFL. You chose a 960 over a 470 because of Nvidia features? YOU LEFT THE 70% FASTER GPU FOR NVIDIA FEATURES??????? AHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Is this the twilight zone? Why is zMuel saying positive things about AMD?
