HELP WITH GPU & CPU PLZ

Can't get a quad core, motherboard only handles dual. Also, thanks for the tip. Though, buying new hardware could be a good idea. How? if I slowly buy better hardware, after a while, I'll have almost all I need to make a new PC. Better storage, better GPU, new case, etc. I'm seriously thinking about this. As for the GPU, my current GPU is a Zotac GeForce GT 220 1GB. It only got like 45 Cuda Cores... I'm thinking about a new GPU since it's all I need to run the games I want to play. NFS Hot Pusuit (2010) really doesn't need much to run. At all. So, even if it's somewhat of a waste of money, if I can do it, I'll do it. Buy a new GPU that is... Anyhow, the main question I want answered is; Can I put these two together and get a good performance? Will there be bottleneck, or not?

The most important thing right now is to get a new motherboard and CPU that supports DDR3, and at least a pentium or i3.

Buy the motherboard new, but you should be able to get a good deal on a CPU from craigslist.

If you go for a used GPU you can find something much better than your 220 for less than $50.

I've got an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @3.43Ghz. I want to couple that CPU alongside the PNY GeForce GT 710. I mainly want to run games like NFS Hot Pursuit (2010), Dark Souls I, & Burnout Paradise. However, after visiting a few websites, some stated that that combination would result in huge performance loss. It'd be playable, but wouldn't be a "good" combination. I think you call it Bottleneck. Anyhow, I need some help here. Thank you.

So what exactly do you need help troubleshooting?

It just looks like you need to buy a new PC that isn't a decade old.

Yeah, as much as I want a new PC, I can't buy one. I wouldn't cause myself so much trouble otherwise... *sigh*

Anyhow, basically, I need to know if the PNY GeForce 710 will bottleneck if coupled with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500...

Yes of course.

And you should not buy that GPU because it would be a waste of money.

Well, what would you suggest then? I know about how low end GPU's suck... (Since the perf. per dollar value is terrible) I just wished I'd have the cash honestly. I can't afford getting a new PC unless it'd cost less than 200$ (CAD) My PC is usable, but isn't "good", one could say... And getting a good GPU is out of my budget too. I just need something that'll perform better than my 45 cuda core gpu...

For 200 cad you can get a much better CPU and motherboard with integrated graphics or a used GPU from craigslist.

Do you already have the GPU?

If so then stick with it and save you money until you can buy something better.

Also, if your budget is limited, don't buy new parts, instead try to get good deals on used hardware.

What I would suggest as an update (IF you can afford it right now) would be an old GTX (470/480 or 560) or an old Radeon (7850/7870) and a Core 2 Quad, they are cheap ($20-30 CAD), total for that should be $70-100 CAD and you would have something MUCH better, still old and slow, but much better!

Good place to look for old parts is;

*snip*

As far as buying a GPU, if you intend on keeping it, then it's not a waste of money since you'll be able to use it in you next build.

As an exemple, my previous build was a Core 2 Duo (almost 5 years ago), I build it up by upgrading one part at a time.

In the end, what I had was this (now it's parts I have left-over);

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/606697-the-leftover-build/

Now, I have the PC that you can see in my signature, everything was "new" apart from the PSU, case GPU and SSD and HDD. Core 2 Duos and Quads are getting old and investing in them isn't the best idea! I personally only did it because I got the Q9400 and the DDR2 RAM for free (also my investment was only on parts that could be transfered to another PC).

Since you don't have much money you could invest in a recent or new GPU, and then save some money to try and get a used 3rd or 4th gen Intel CPU/mobo, it doesn't have to be an unlocked one.

As for the bottleneck, yeah, pretty much any recent GPU will be bottlenecked.
