If you think about it, a VR vest arguably makes more sense than a VR backpack. A vest ideally has a more balanced design, hanging equally over your front and back instead of tugging backwards on your shoulders, and the two demonstrators on the IDF show floor, Rohit and Atsuo, told me was that was indeed the goal with this particular vest. They specifically tried to balance the components of the system evenly on the front and back, which wasn’t terribly difficult because the whole shebang weighs only about five pounds.

It's basically a NUC running on a Core i7 6785R @ 3.3GHz turbos up to 3.9GHz. Iris Pro 580, 8GB DDR3L, and 64GB SSD that can be upgrade to 512GB or PCIe SSD in the future. The processor runs on socket 1151.

well I knew that, but thinking of the possibilities in the future, also now I am curious of how this will compare to the vr suit Linus and Luke were talking about during the wan show

Essentially it's the same idea but of course without the ability to swap parts

Well I think they could make something that performs better but it would be ghetto and more awkward feeling on the body I presume, I'm also wondering what kind of power pack they'll need since it sounded like they wanted to have sli which means they'll be drawing quite a bit of power, if they want this to last more than a couple minutes they'll need some good batteries.

swapping and upgrading is going away.  Companies want to sell products that have to be replaced to sell more products.  Why else do you think cell phones and tablets have non removable batteries?  It's so when that battery goes bad and it will long before the hardware in many cases, that you just buy a new phone or tablet instead of a battery.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.

Yeah which is why I don't buy that crap, Apple is and has always been a blacklisted company to me for a reason, I prefer quality to looks and really like customization, though I can mod things if I really have to since I have the expertise and the equipment.

HP's Omen X VR uses custom cooling, maybe water cooling!

CPU is desktop, so that can be swapped out. SSD is upgradable, and ram can probably be upgraded too, maybe it's SO-DIMM. Only concern is the GPU, if its MXM then it can probably be upgraded.

where you gonna but the gpu is the bigger question with the design

Stack it. GPU directly on the bottom of the motherboard. Too bad GPU can't be made into CPUs yet, where uses can swap them out.

well if its gonna be consumer parts then we would end up using actual cards so it would be hard to safely attach it

MSI Vortex, Mac Pro, and Zotac Magnus all run on custom designed MXM gpus. Your average consumer won't be opening up and doing some gpu ugprade. Those that will are tech, so they will probably know to be careful when trying to do a gpu upgrade.

yeah custom designed gpu's i'm talking about the standard consumer desktop gpu, and think about it being modular in the future while that most likely wont happen, but if it did it would end up using standter consumer desktop gpus

They are using standard consumer desktop gpus. MXM has nothing to do with the GPU that's on the PCB. The GPU on a MXM card is the exact same as the one in your desktop. Now if you're talking about the physical design of the PCB, then smallest standard right now are those ITX GPUs.

yeah that's what i'm talking about the full card PCB and all, yes I know itx are the smallest at the moment, i'm just trying to think of how it could be safely swapped in/out
