I am currently running a FX-6300 Black Edition on a Sabertooth 990FX V2.0. I have just installed a 980Ti GPU and my UEFI is now popping up warning messages that my CPU temp is exceeding 65C wile gaming which is beyond the normal operating range of 50-60C for Piledriver architecture. So I have decided to switch to a closed loop cooling solution. My thinking is that if I am going to switch cooling solutions anyway, with the FX-9590 at $229 USD would it be worth it to upgrade the CPU as well?

This computer is currently used for School, Gaming, and I am trying to set up a webcast.

Should I  stick with what I have, up grade the CPU, or wait for the next generation of hardware, and most importantly.... WHY?

Thanks

Don't buy a amd processor right now. am3+ is outdated. Wait for zen or get a intel cpu rn.

Unsure what power supply to pick?

Check out my HTPC build.

None of AMD's current offerings are really worth it, Zen has the possibility to be a decent option, but I don't think we've gotten any official releases yet.

Also, just go for an 8350, the 9590 is essentially just a binned 8350.

Or you could jump over to intel and grab something like an i5 6600k or i5 4690k and a z170 or z97 motherboard respectively.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Get the new cooler and OC that shit (FX 6300) to 4.5+Ghz if you can and it will still be a decent little gaming chip ;)

Which will cost even more money...just sayin...

Don't buy a FX chip now. Wait for ZEN. The 9590 requires an expensive motherboard, runs hot as the Sun and the performance is only there in certain workloads. Really, save your money.

It was just an option, I know it'd cost quite a bit more money than just upgrading the CPU, the i5 4690k is around $225, and a z97 motherboard would be another $80+, or around the same for an i5 6600k, and motherboard, then depending on the board, DDR4, so another $60+ for that.

I suggested going with an 8350 instead for the reason of it costing much less than switching to intel would cost.

He already has the expensive motherboard it needs and will add the heavy cooling anyway, so not really a factor.

Still, I don't think it's that great of a deal. 9590 is an overclocked 83xx, which is itself like 3 years old and counting. With that mobo and cooling, OCing a used 83xx will give you the same or better for less.

I'd even say the Vishera prices, both new and used,  are not falling enough compared to contemporaneous Sandy Bridge CPUs due remaining the top AMD offering. I bet Zen's release will bring those prices within reason...
