I want a crossfire (or sli. More on that later)

Would I be able to crossfire them with my setup? https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/

I originally wanted to sli my 970s but got told I was cutting it too fine to my psu (if 2 were in stalled I'd be pulling around 530 watts from a 550w psu.)

why do I want to sli or crossfire my rig?

I'm a sucker for looks, 2 gpus look fancy. I'm honestly not bothered about the price (dads buying me a gpu for passing my a levels, and I'll buy be other one)

Not all games support crossfire or SLI and they have problems with scaling just buy the fastest single card you can afford.

Read the last paragraph.

You need to use the PCPartPicker permalink feature. The link at the moment just takes people to the parts list they currently have in PCPartpicker.

That doesn't leave much wiggle room if true, what's the PSU

The pcpartpicker list is empty :o

You know about the disadvantages? There has been tests, many latest Games don't scale well. The worst scale with 0% (dont support multi GPU).

It can go down to like, 140-150% more Performance, up to like 194% performance (which is a lonely exception).

Techpowerup came to only 139%  overall performance. Which means, you only gain 39% of the 2nd ones performance. Without the games, who does NOT scale, it's still only at +65%.

Also: The higher the resolution, the higher the scale becomes.

Sometimes, even a single GTX 1070 is faster (in 1080p).

Plus, super high heat output, power consumption, driver problems, etc etc.

And since 1 good RX 480 in my country costs 299 (MSI Gaming. Reference ones are Shit +1), that makes 600 bucks for 2 of them. 60-70 bucks more, and you have a GTX 1080, which is overall Faster, MUCH more efficient, and faster Memory.

So you should check all the Prices :P

If you still want to go for it (optics are a valid reason. I just wanted to state the disadvantages ^^), then i recommend a 600w PSU~. For example, BeQuiet Straight power E10 600w.

The whole System draws like 430 Watt with 2x RX 480s included.

so 600w is a fair amount, with still 170 watt left in the bank for some peaks, etc.

Should be fine then since the PSU quality is good, and your board supports it, though I wouldn't recommend it for the standard why you shouldn't get xfire or sli reasons, but it will work with your rig (or at least work in games that support it)

Off topic- if I get another 970 am I still good, or would I need a better psu?

One pimp ass card looks better than two cheap ass cards IMO. But two cards do look cool. But if you get a 1070 or 1080 you can move up to SLI and really have something later.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Don't crossfire. Save your money and let your dad buy you a GPU. When Vega comes out, tell him you love him and it's the thought that counts, but you're selling the 480 and get a Vega card. Much less headaches than dealing with crossfire.

Technically yes but if you were to overclock or have more power drawing PCBs not so much
